Jalāl al-Dīn al-Suyūṭī [d. 1505 CE] writing about the Berber grammarian Muḥammad ibn Dawūd as-Ṣinhaaji (author of ‘al-Ajrumiyyah’) – “Those who explained his primer on grammar, such as al-Makudi, al-Raʿi and others, have described its author as being an imam in Arabic grammar, blessed and righteous, and what attests to this is the acceptance his primer on Arabic grammar received, [a work] which is indispensable for beginners studying Arabic Grammar (naḥw).”
