Abu Walid al-Bāji [d. 1081] – “Do not [erroneously] believe that whatever that is NOT found in the Sahih (authentic) compilations [Bukhari/Muslim] is not authentic.”

Abu Walid al-Bāji [d. 1081]: “[Muhammad b. Isma’il] al-Bukhari said, ‘I have not included within this compilation [“al-Jaami’ as-Sahih” i.e Sahih al-Bukhari] except that which is authentic. I abstained from adding [more] authentic narrations so as to NOT lengthen the work.”

al-Baji explains, “I only relate this narration [to inform] one not proficient in this field [hadith]: do not [erroneously] believe that whatever that is NOT found in the Sahih (authentic) compilations [Bukhari/Muslim] is not authentic. Rather [many] narrations, not compiled within Sahih al-Bukhari/Muslim, are Sahih (authentic).”
